Cult of Orpheus produces a reading and musical performance in conjunction with Portland Book Festival’s annual LitCrawl event. The concert presents a series of collaborations between composer Christopher Corbell and poets Mo McFeely, Jason Squamata, Coleman Stevenson, and James Yeary.
Two poems from each poet have been set for solo singer with varying musical textures. Tenor Eric Asakawa will sing with electronic tracks created by the composer for the Yeary settings. Soprano Jocelyn Thomas collaborates with violist Julie Asparro to interpret Coleman Stevenson’s poetry. Two Squamata cantos from his recent Hotel Zymoglypic are performed by baritone Dan Gibbs and saxophonist Patrick McCulley. Two poems by Mo McFeely are set for mezzo-soprano Sadie Gregg with Corbell playing electric guitar. Music direction by Erica Melton.
The featured poets will be reading their works at 7 pm, with musical performances at 8 pm. Free admission! 21+
