About the Cult
Cult of Orpheus was founded in 2013 as the transcendental underground music vehicle of Portland composer / poet / songwriter Christopher Corbell.
We are devoted to creating lyrical music, discovering shared meaning, and fostering engaged community.
Cult of Orpheus is Portland’s only all-original opera and art-song company.
In 2018 we have taken an evolutionary step, toward a more stable organization with a core part-time staff. This year we are also building a troupe of singers and a standing chamber ensemble to premiere new works, create original recordings, offer poetic and musical rituals, and deepen the artistic capability of the company.
